Inspire - the Coverdale coaching model
Business doesn't stand still and nor should employees' skills. Mike De Luca explains how a new coaching model can help staff to improve their performance in line with changing business goals
The business environment has changed dramatically over the last few decades. This has meant that managers have had to change their roles, develop new skills and operate in a way that may be alien to their previous experience. Coaching has been one response to this. The word 'coaching' is now used to mean many things. But the primary aim is to help people to help others improve their performance, within the context of understood business aims.
Over the last 40 years, a new model for coaching - The INSPIRE Model - has been developed that aims to do just this. INSPIRE stands for the following six steps: Identify Needs, Situation, Process planning, Implementation, Review and Evaluation. Central to these steps is establishing a sound relationship between the coach and the individual built on mutual trust. Here we look at how the model works.
