Coverdale have taken a strategic decision to focus all effort on helping clients on an in-house basis only. Over the last few years we have seen a steady shift in the market where more and more clients are demanding tailor-made solutions to meet the specific needs of their businesses. In order to respond well to this need and so we can optimise the value we add we have taken the decision to cease running open courses.

Who's it for?
People who are required to manage and deliver projects effectively. New and experienced project managers. This course will both give you up-to-date tools and techniques of project management and plenty of practice in using them you will leave with skills and confidence to:

• establish clear project scope and direction
• define and meet measurable quality and performance standards
• manage project sponsors, clients, users and other stakeholders
• communicate effectively within your project team and beyond it
• set and achieve realistic timescales and resource estimates
• manage a project team effectively
• deliver high quality end-results, on time and to specification.

What's involved?
You will be asked to complete a detailed questionnaire before the course. This helps us understand your aims and expectations so the detailed design of the course can be adjusted to meet them.During the course, you will work on real projects for real clients, enabling you to put the project management theory into practice in a challenging but safe learning environment.

Technical aspects of project management, such as:

• critical path analysis
• dependency networks
• risk analysis and
• resource monitoring

will be handled in the context of the successful management of a team of people with their different skills, ideas and personalities.

Applying your learning back at work is given ample time during the course.

The programme
This four-day programme is designed to develop the skills necessary for managing and operating within an effective project team.

Day one
Delegates work in teams to carry out a series of very short practical projects in order to practise the following ideas and techniques:

• a Systematic Approach to projects
• a structure for analysing and setting aims
• forming an effective team
• delivering quality results to a time deadline.

There is an opportunity for delegates to clarify their own personal learning or development aims.

Day two

• Project teams explore how to integrate new members while continuing to deliver quality results on time.
• The group starts to work as one organisation managing a number of long projects for real clients.

Days three and four

• Delegates continue to work in teams on real projects while learning to apply a range of project management tools, such as,project planning, prioritising needs, managing time and resources and co-ordinating a programme of projects. Most delegates will have an opportunity to lead and manage one of the project teams for part of a project. Personal feedback on skills, strengths and attributes is fed back to the participant enabling them to identify where their brilliance in project management lies. This continues into day four.

Day four

• The second half of the day is devoted to applying the learning to the work situation and developing plans for projects back at work.

Back at work support
Course staff will continue to follow the progress of delegates on the course, supporting the application of learning back at work, maintaining contact with them by telephone or email.
