Coaching philosophy and principles

What is coaching?

Coaching can be seen as a working relationship between an individual (the client) and the coach which is about enabling personal development and improving personal achievement.

This coaching relationship may focus on the individual's work activities or more broadly on life activities, or indeed on both of these.  Coaching can be about task (like productivity improvement), process (like leadership style) or therapy (like bereavement counselling).

In a business context, the focus will usually be on performance improvement and so coaching activity will be concerned with learning and task outcome.

Managers/coaches will operate in the areas of task and process applied to their work depending on the needs of the individual and the organisation.  In the case of therapy, it is best to refer the individual to specialist help elsewhere if this identified as a need.

The type of coaching we provide for individuals and teams is about improving performance.
